SN: 442697 US military single shot rifle manufactured circa 1887. Features 29.5" barrel, blade front sight, rear sight with elevator ladder, cleaning rod, sling swivels, stacking swivel, external hammer, straight gripped walnut stock with added metal hand stop, curved steel buttplate. Bore is very good condition, bright with little frosting. Retains 85% finish, some fading and losses, with light patina across lock plate, vivid case colors on 1878 dated breech block. Loss of finish at muzzle area from bayonet mounting. Barrel marked over chamber "V / P / (eagle head)", "A", "P". Cartouche at stock wrist shows 1889 date, last two digits have been deepened. Buttplate marked with small "W" over an engraved "US" (vertical portions of letters show double lines with engraved shadow lines between) on forward top edge. Observed markings mostly appear crisp with even depth. Edges on metal retain original profiles and sharp corners. Wood is very good with dents & other handling marks. Includes a very good overall condition bayonet (reblued with patina). Condition is NRA Fine *** Antique Firearm ***
