SN: 344258 US Military carbine with 22" barrel, pinned blade front sight, adjustable rear sight, sling bar (missing the ring), butt trap storage compartment, 1873 dated breech block, incorporating changes typical to the 1884 model such as Buffington rear sight (marked "C"), 1890 rear sight protector, grooved trigger. Muzzle measures approx 0.725" outside diameter. Bore is poor condition, traces of rifling, large areas of dark pitting. Metal parts show a gray or brown color, with breech block and lock plate showing an even coverage of small pits giving a rough appearance. Hole in buttplate forward of top screw indicates missing internal part for tensioning the compartment door. Action is mechanically sound. Stock is fair condition, missing small piece near band spring, hole in forend tip, many small scratches and dents throughout, several small gouges. Markings on lock plate are thing, slightly dished out. Breech block date obscured by pitting. Barrel marks legible with "VP" and "P" observed. Buttplate "US" is sharp.
