New York 13th Infantry Regiment issued rifle. Single-Shot, breechblock Action. "Ramrod Bayonet". U.S. Military issue. Indian Wars, Spanish-American War era. 32.6" barrel with front blade, and correct "Buffington" rear sights stamped "R" for rifle. Hinged breechblock. This is the "1888" model with "Ramrod" integral bayonet/cleaning rod. Produced 1888-92. "V P Eagle" proof on barrel. Eagle/U.S. Springfield marked lock plate, barrel bands stamped "U". Breechblock stamped "U.S. Model 1884". Serial number on receiver. U.S. stamped hinged buttplate. one piece straight wrist shoulder stock, sling swivels, stacking swivel, "SWP/1892" cartouche on left wrist. "P" proof behind triggerguard. The right side of the buttstock is stamped in large letters "13. N.Y., the lower comb above the buttplate tang is stamped with the rack number "555". Bore is very good, with strong rifling. Breechblock, hammer lock up tight, half cock works well. Barrel,breechblock & triggerguard have turned a brown patina with age, the sidelock and hammer retain a dull blue finish with some scattered patina. Markings are clear. Wood is good with some scratches/dings. The rifle comes with a history of the regiment and the Springfield 1888 rifle.
