Early production U.S. Military bolt action service rifle chambered in .30-40 Krag, manufactured circa 1894. This long arm started life as a model 1892, was later converted to the model 1896 configuration and eventually altered to resemble a carbine. Features a blued finish, 22 3/4" barrel, 1903 style blade front sight, adjustable flip-up ladder rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards, single barrel band, side-mounted hinged magazine with cut-off on the left side of the receiver, straight bolt handle, Mauser style safety, smooth trigger, no sling swivels, trapdoor metal buttplate with three pieces of cleaning rod, smooth walnut handguard and straight grip shoulder stock. The stock has the initials "N.S." carved into the underside forward of the trigger guard but has no observed military marks. The barrel, magazine & buttplate retain the majority of their blued finish and the receiver displays smooth varied tones of grey patina. Action is smooth, the bore is good with scattered light pin-prick pitting, markings are clear and the wood stock are good with a crack in the handguard extending from the breech to the rear rivet on the right side. Condition is NRA Very Good as modified. ***Antique Firearm***
