Spanish-American War era US military bolt action infantry rifle manufactured circa 1901. Subsequently altered into its current 'No. 2 Sporting Rifle' configuration by W. Stokes Kirk. Kirk bought U.S. surplus Krag rifles, carbines, & parts, and assembled them in unique configurations circa 1920's. Features a blued finish, 30" barrel, pinned blade front sight, tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards. Side-mounted 5 round hinged magazine with cut-off on the left side of the receiver, polished bolt with two-position safety on the rear, smooth trigger, sling swivels, smooth walnut handguard and straight grip carbine stock with finger grooves in the forend, trapdoor metal buttplate, circled script "P" cartouche behind triggerguard, small "J." right behind the triggerguard, Inspector's cartouche "JSA" dated 1901 on left wrist. Bore is very good/bright. Bolt is polished, retains most of the original blue finish with some edge/handling wear. The walnut stocks are very good with nice clear cartouches. Period Kerr Nobuckl web sling attached. Includes three vintage W. Stokes Kirk catalogs. A nice conditioned Krag.
