US military bolt action infantry rifle manufactured circa 1899. Features a blued & case hardened finish, 30" barrel, pinned blade front sight, tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards with rear notch and sliding peep, two barrel bands with bayonet lug & stacking swivel on the front band, side-mounted 5 round hinged magazine with cut-off on the left side of the receiver, polished bolt with two-position safety on the rear, smooth trigger, sling swivels, smooth walnut handguard and straight grip shoulder stock with finger grooves in the forend, trapdoor metal buttplate, circled script "P" & "F" cartouche behind triggerguard, small "46" right behind the triggerguard, Inspector's cartouche dated 1899 on left wrist. Bore is fair to good, strong rifling, with dark spirals along the rifling lands, might improve with a good cleaning. Receiver and bolt are a mottled patina brown over dull gray. Most blued parts retain a dark color, fading to brown tones, with light rust on forward band and barrel near muzzle. Rear band is a dull light brown color. Several areas of shallow pitting along top of barrel. Wood is good or better showing cartouche and other markings, slight loss of sharp edges of grasping grooves. appears lightly sanded and/or cleaned, retains boiled linseed oil type finish. Includes fair to good condition leather two-hook sling. Condition is NRA Good+ *** C&R Firearm ***
