This is a Springfield M1903 Mark 1 in it's complete original configuration, made to accept the secret semi-automatic Pedersen Device. Has unique milled left-side ejection port, specific internal sear/trigger parts, and matching stock cutout. Exceptionally scarce because the military removed the vast majority of these parts from storage in the late 1930s and reclassified the rifles back to standard M1903s.The Springfield 1903 Mark 1 was produced from 1918 to 1921. During World War II overhauls, most Mark 1 rifles had their specialized parts replaced and were reconfigured with standard 1903 barrels and components. Manufactured early 1919. Records show that Springfield Armory started the year 1919 at serial number 1055092 and ended the year around 1162501. The receiver was serialized in the first few months of 1919. Matching original barrel marked "S.A. over flaming bomb, dated 1-19" over a capital "A" (Service-inspection mark). It has a "Safe Receiver", serial number is well above 800,000, it features the highly desirable double heat-treated steel. It is structurally strong, unlike the brittle, "low-number" receivers made before 1918. Has the original Mark I cutoff switch, uniquely machined to lock the Pedersen Device in place. The machined recessed portion of the switch is commonly referred to as a "W-shape", correct original smooth Mark I trigger with dual purpose sear system. The standard sear operates the bolt action striker release. The secondary sear is attached as a pall on the trigger arm, and releases the striker of the Pedersen Device, correctly stamped "S". The receiver was never upgraded with an auxiliary gas escape hole. Still retains most of the original black oil-dye parkerized finish. Original Mark I stock with a 1.5 inch long and .25 inch deep recess beneath the left side receiver ejection port, factory recess is uniformly beveled at each end of the flat, correct grasping-groove S-stock design with a smooth buttplate. Feint "P" in circle proof behind the triggerguard, feint "S.A." cartouche on the left wrist and "285" is stamped on top of the handguard behind the lower band. (Likely a rack number) The "R" marked (Remington),bolt is a later replacement, should put a S.A. bolt in. Has all the standard m1903 features, sights, stacking swivel, bayonet lug and a clip-on front sight protector. The action is smooth, wood is very good with no chips or cracks, the receiver, buttplate and triggerguard have scattered light pitting, handling wear on the bottom metal, the bore is very good/bright with strong rifling. Original Springfield 1903 oiler is inside the buttstock compartment, original M1907 sling attached.
