The United States Rifle, Caliber .30, Model of 1903, is one of the most iconic
American small arms of the 20th century. Adopted on June 19, 1903, the Springfield
M1903 replaced the M1892 Krag–Jørgensen, and would be one of two rifles with
which the United States fought World War I.
It went on to see service throughout World War II and, despite the Chief of Ordnance
declaring the venerable M1903 obsolete on July 24, 1947, served on through the
Korean War and into the early stages of the Vietnam War.
