Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1807 Flintlock Carbine (aka Indian Carbine), #NVSN, .54 cal., 33.5" barrel, metal is "in the white", walnut half-stock, small blade front sight, and a "V"-groove cut in the tang for a rear sight. Springfield made 1,202 carbines for gifts to Indians, but only a few hundred were gifted. The remaining carbines were converted to percussion in the mid-1800's and then reconverted back to flint by collectors. Barrel is marked "P (eagle) V", with "US" on top. Wooden ramrod appears to be correct, with the worm on the bottom. Lockplate is marked "U S/(eagle)/SPRINGFIELD", with "1809". The "U S" was partially obliterated during the conversions. Brass furniture was cleaned in the past and now has a nice appearance. Barrel was cleaned to white, leaving scattered spots of patina. Stock is in very good condition, showing moderate wear, but has a 2" crack at the left front. Brass buttplate is dated 1810 on the tang. Flintlock system works properly. Smooth bore shows light rust. Est.: $3,000-$4,000. (Antique)
