Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, #408698, .45-70 cal., 32" barrel, blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock, blade front sight, and M1884 adjustable rear sight. Includes a commercial military style leather sling. Breechblock is marked "U.S./MODEL/1884". Barrel is marked "VP/(eagle)/P" with an "A" on top. Ramrod is correct. Rifle is in very good overall condition, retaining approx. 65%-70% blue, with scattered spots of patina. Case colors are visible on the tang, but the breechblock is now mostly silver with spots of dark patina. Stock is marked "U" and has a circled "P" behind the trigger plate, and "E.G. 6th BATT." on the right, near the buttplate. The cartouche appears to have been removed. Stock is good, with scattered scratches and dents, heavier at the bottom of the buttstock. There is a 1.5" crack to the upper right edge of the forend, approx. halfway down the barrel. Action works properly. Bore is very good with crisp rifling. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)
