Springfield Model 1903-1905 Transitional Bolt Action Rifle, #50437, .30-06 cal., 24'' barrel, blue finish, Type 1D altered Rod Bayonet high wood stock marked ''KSM'' in square cartouche on left, ''G'' mark in front of cartouche indicating alteration, and circled ''P'' behind triggerguard. Rod bayonet channel is plugged and marked ''S''. Type 3 handguard ''S'' marked in sight relief cut. Model 1903 .30-03 barrels were 24.206'' in length; when converted to .30-06 they were shortened .200'' to a nominal 24''. This rifle has the shortened/rechambered Type 1 24'' barrel, arsenal re-chambered for the .30-06 cartridge stamped ''SA/Ordnance Bomb/05''. Front sight is 1903 type with cover, with 1905 rear sight graduated to 2800 yards. Receiver marked ''U.S./Springfield/Armory/Model 1903/50437''. Bolt stop lever is the Model 1903 bright polished ''ON'' variation. Buttplate is smooth, and butt trap contains early nickel plated oiler/cleaning kit. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 90% original blue, with most of the losses to the magazine floorplate, triggerguard and buttplate. Stock has the usual minor handling bumps and bruises but retains approx. 90% original finish; there is no evidence of sanding or repair to the stock. Action is tight, bore is bright. This is an excellent example of a rare 1903 variation showing very little use. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (C&R)
