U.S. Model 1903 Heavy Barrel Style T Bolt Action Target Rifle, by Springfield, #1314455, .30-06 cal., 28'' heavy barrel, blue finish, polished bolt with matching number electro-penciled beneath extractor, correct pistol-grip walnut stock with special front barrel band and cupped checkered buttplate. Includes Lyman 48C receiver sight and Winchester globe front sight; dovetailed scope blocks are installed with correct 7.2'' spread. These rifles were originally targeted from a machine rest at 200 meters having to group 10 shots 2.25'' in dia. and were made for extremely accurate target shooting at ranges from 100-1000 yards. In 1929 the DCM claimed that these rifles will be found to be the most accurate rifles made for this purpose. Includes letter from Springfield Research Service and copy of original receipt dated 1930. Condition is near excellent. Blue metal surfaces retain approx. 94% blue with most of the thinning at the muzzle, some flaking to buttplate and magazine floorplate. Stock is very good with losses near the bottom of the buttplate and below the M48 sight for clearance. Trigger is smooth and crisp, bore is bright, crown is excellent. Est.: $2,750-$3,500. (C&R)
