Springfield Model 1870 Trapdoor 50-70 #29
Single shot US military rifle. Has Model 1870 features including standard length receiver and longer arched underside of breech bolt, but has matching numbered barrel and receiver, as well as "1869" dated breech bolt (over eagle head over "US"). Blued finish, 32.6" barrel, blade front sight, folding elevator rear sight, sling swivels, no provision for stacking swivel, double shouldered cleaning rod. "1863" dated lock plate. Rear sigh base is spaced approx half inch from front of receiver. Bore is mostly bright, lightly frosted throughout, good rifling. Metal surfaces are mostly patina brown, with thinning and light discolored areas in many places, fairly smooth with some slightly rough texture in places. Wood is good condition, with scratches and scrapes, erosion at toe (buttplate proud of wood at toe). Right side of butt has shallow scrapes or scratches that look like block letters forming a name, unreadable. Screws show minor marring in slots. "US SPRINGFIELD" stamp on lock plate shows some loss of depth in some places, eagle is deep & appears uniform. Condition is NRA Very Good *** Antique Firearm ***
