Single-Shot. Breech-Block action. Produced 1873-1884. Cavalry carbine with 22" round barrel. Lock plate marked with Eagle, and "U.S. Springfield". Hinged "Trapdoor" stamped "U.S. model 1873". This one is a bit of a mystery It has no "VP Eagle proof on lower barrel. Serial number has been buffed off the breech block. Barrel band stamped "U", and has been modified to accommodate the sight, which is a M1901 30-40 Krag sight. It has a rifle triggerguard with provision for sling swivel. Carbine stock inletted for saddle ring bar, but bar has been removed. US marked buttplate with hinge. Bore appears rough with thin rifling. Barrel has thinning dull old re-blue, with handling loss at the bottom. Breech block is mostly blue. Hammer. lock plate, and triggerguard have been buffed to in the white.. There are no cartouches, or "P" proof on the stock, as it has been sanded. Receiver has been installed wrong, with the hinge pin lever not inserted into the stock.
