The top of the barrel is marked “SPRINGFIELD ARMS COMPANY / CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS, U.S.A. / 22 SHORT, LONG OR LONG RIFLE / MODEL -53A-”. The Springfield Arms Co. was a trade name used by the Stevens arms company from 1935-1945 or '48. This single shot bolt action is chambered for .22 Short, Long or Long Rifle rimfire cartridges. It has a 24" blued barrel with dovetailed blade front sight, an adjustable rear sight, metal trigger guard and smooth trigger. The one piece walnut stock has a finger groove on both sides of the forearm and a smooth metal butt plate. The metal finish is gone at the muzzle and is turning to a patina with some surface rust and the receiver is a brown patina. There is rust on the trigger guard. The wood stock appears to have been refinished and a quail decal has been added to the right side of the butt stock and varnished over. Bore looks good, dusty. LOP is 13.25".
