Antique U.S. military single shot breachloading carbine chambered in .45-70 Government. Manufactured at the Springfield Arsenal circa 1880. The left side of the butt is stamped “WESTERN” in block letters, it is believed to have been marked by Western Costume Company of Hollywood, CA. This prop company provided carbines for movies like “She Wore A Yellow Ribbon” & “Apache”. Features an old reblued finish, 22" round tapered barrel, pinned blade front sight, ‘C’ marked Buffington fully-adjustable rear sight, sling bar with saddle ring, 1873 dated breech block, serrated trigger, checkered hammer spur, and smooth walnut straight grip stock with metal trapdoor buttplate. Rifle retains approximately 70% of its reblued finish showing wear and thinning with a brown patina comprising the balance. The action is mechanically sound, the bore is bright with semi-worn rifling & light pitting, and the walnut stock is fair with large repaired cracks.
