Stevens Ideal ''Range Model'' No. 45 Schuetzen Style Sporting Rifle, #21253, .28-30-120 Stevens CF cal., 26'' part octagonal-part round No. 2 medium-weight barrel marked ahead of breech ''J. Stevens A&T Co.,/Chicopee Falls, Mass. U.S.A. Pat. Sept. 6, 1864'' in two lines and ''28-30'' on left angled flat, mounted with Beach combination front and open rear sights; steel receiver with adjustable Vernier tang sight; double set triggers; serpentine operating lever; Swiss buttplate; varnished walnut forend (having a semi-Schnabel nose) and straight buttstock. Mfg'd 1896-1916, originally with blued and case hardened finishes. Condition is fine+, the barrel retaining approx. 70% blue on round portion and 25% on octagonal portion, and a smooth, lightly-aged gunmetal gray color to receiver, lever and buttplate; barrel has small tapped holes (two ahead of rear sight and two behind) with flush screws, likely for scope mounts (scopes were an original Stevens option). Stocks are very fine showing only minor use, nice grain and color, and perhaps a later coat of varnish. Action is smooth, double set triggers function as designed; bore is clean, shiny and with sharp rifling. A very nice rifle, in a very rare and desirable centerfire caliber. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (C&R)
