SN: 674 'Schuetzen Special' Fantastic cased & engraved falling block single shot target rifle, two barrel set in .22 Long Rifle & .32-40 Ballard. Manufactured circa 1897-1916, the No. 54 Ideal rifle was the highest grade rifle offered by Stevens with profuse engraving standard. Features a blued 30" #1 weight part octagon/part round .22 Long Rifle barrel, open-top globe style front sight with fine bead top post insert & retainer clip, flip-up ladder style rear sight with magnifying lens, tang mounted No. 104 Wind-Gauge Vernier peep sight with six-aperture Combination Eye Cup, case hardened 44 1/2 action with sharp hand cut scroll & border engraving, double set triggers, knurled hammer spur, fancy finger rest lever with smooth walnut scales, fine point checkered extra fancy walnut forend with schnabel tip & detachable palm rest and straight grip perch belly Schuetzen shoulder stock with case hardened Swiss style buttplate. Includes a fitted leather-wrapped trunk case with .32-40 barrel, ejector & block, false muzzle, partial box of .32-40 ammunition and spare sight parts. The front face of the receiver is stamped "54" & "0", both barrels are stamped "674" & "1" and both forends are stamped "G" & "674". Rifle retains the majority of it's original finish showing slightly muted case colors on the right side of the receiver and some thinning on the barrel. Action appears in good working order other than the hammer does not cock, the bore is excellent and the fancy walnut stocks are very good with some minor blemishes.
