Vintage American made double barrel hammer fired box-lock side-by side shotgun chambered for 2-1/2" 16 Gauge shells, and manufactured in Chicopee Falls, MA. In 1916, 'J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co.' dropped the '& Tool' from their address line. These shotguns were produced between 1912 and 1916, and then 'J. Stevens Arms' produced the Model 235 until 1932. Shotgun features color-case receiver, approximately 30" blued fluid steel barrels with a serrated solid rib, brass bead front sight, left bore measures 'Improved Cylinder' and the right measures 'Cylinder' (measured with a drop-in gauge), exposed hammers with checkered spurs, double smooth curved triggers, extractor, and a checkered top lever. The walnut furniture consists of a round knobbed shoulder stock with checkering at the wrist, checkered splinter forend, 14-1/8" length-of-pull to the front trigger, 1-3/8" drop at comb, 2-3/8" drop at heel, and a factory checkered black hard rubber butt plate. The original blued barrel finish retained is approximately 92% with edge wear, general handling marks, and some fading to a plum colored patina. A brown patina covers the entirety of the receiver with little of the color-case remaining. Metal displays some deformation in some of the screw slots, and the left hammer bent so it contacts the receiver when fired, instead of the firing pin. Light scattered rust was also observed. The action falls slowly under its own weight and the top lever sits centered within the tang. The left hammer is bent enough that it does not strike the firing pin, but the rest of the action seems to work fine. The condition of the bores is very good with a smooth appearance, but they are dirty. Wood is in near good condition with handling marks, a small 1/2" crack at the tang, low spots in the checkering, significant wear on the butt plate, and some thin spots in the finish. Markings are legible.
Condition is NRA Fair to Good.
