'Ideal', an American made single-shot rolling block rifle chambered for .22 Long Rifle, and manufactured in Chicopee Falls, MA. The Stevens 44 Ideal was in production from 1894 until 1932. Rifle features a case-color action with a blued barrel and other parts, an approximately 24" half round half and octagon barrel, dovetailed adjustable Globe front sight with an aperture insert, elevation adjustable sporting rear sight, external hammer with a checkered spur, external finger lever, and smooth curved trigger. The refinished hardwood furniture consists of a straight gripped shoulder stock, smooth Schnabel forend, and a smooth crescent steel butt plate. The original blued finish retained is approximately 92% with thinning along the bottom side of the barrel, some scratches, and edge wear. The original case-color finish retained on the receiver is approximately 10% with little color brilliance left, and the metal taking on a brown patina. Metal displays deformation in the screw slots, and light scattered rust was observed mostly on the barrel. The rolling action is smooth, the hammer functions, and the bore is a little frosty with strong rifling. The refinished furniture wood is in good condition with a small amount of finish thinning, and handling blemishes.
Condition is NRA Good.
