Manufactured in 1944 by the Steyr-Daimler-Puch factory in Austria. The code "BNZ" was the German ordnance code for Steyr, and the "4" indicates the year of production (1944). 23.62" barrel with hooded reverse V front sight, tangent rear sight, stamped trigger guard and floorplate, H type front barrel band, cleaning rod. Stock has the correct stamped cupped, unmarked buttplate on late-production rifles (often referred to as Kriegsmodell variants). The serial number is stamped on the lower left barrel with the eagle/swastika acceptance proof, serial number is matched on the floorplate, bolt, flag safety and bolt shroud, there are 3 sn's on the stock, two over stamped and unreadable. No other sn's observed. eagle/135 Waffenamt on trigger guard (Mauser factory in Oberndorf), correct, as they produced the trigger guards for Steyr, two eagle/77 Waffenamts on the right chamber (Steyr-Daimler-Puch). Rifle has a an Israeli Defense Forces Mauser sling with IDF acceptance stamp, such as a Tzade (Hebrew letter ?) or a Y in a circle on the brass keeper. The bore is very good with strong rifling, the action is smooth and the wood and finish are very good. No importer markings observed. A nice, matched K98 which was most certainly a Vet bring-back.
NRA Condition-Very good. C&R Firearm.
