"Battle of the Bulge Capture Gun" Late war German WW2 military issued rifle. Receiver ring stamped "bnz", and dated 1944. (Steyr) The serial number matched on the barrel, and rear sight. No others present. Bottom of bolt stem marked with what appears to be a small diamond over a squared "U", next to "I". Cleaning rod present. Hooded front sight. Cupped steel buttplate marked "gqm 44". Stamped triggerguard, and bands. Bore is very good/bright. Action is tight, Wood/metal are very good. A newer made K98 sling attached. No Import marks. Note* Scratched on the upper buttplate is "Dec. 44, Dinant, Belgium". Time and place of the Battle of the Bulge. Consistent with the age and wear of the rifle. Been on there a long time. The December, 1944 German Ardennes offensive broke through the American lines. Elements of Patton's 3rd army, the 2nd Armored division and the 84th Infantry Division stopped the XLVII Panzer Corps outside of Dinant. There is also some writing on the floorplate, but unfortunately, its too faint to make out. Includes a bayonet & sheath. NRA Condition-Very Good C& R Firearm.
