Sutton Contract U.S. Model 1808 Flintlock Musket, #NVSN, .69 cal., 42" barrel, brown finish, walnut stock, blade front sight, manufactured without a rear sight. Rifle was made in Sutton Mass. by Waters and Whitmore and marked "SUTTON" on the lockplate. Barrel was shortened approx. 2"; ramrod appears to be correct but is wedged in the stock and sticks out beyond the barrel. Lockplate is marked with a faint "(eagle)" with "U S" over "SUTTON", and "1810" behind the hammer. Both sling swivels are missing and the upper band spring is missing. Rifle is in fair condition, with dark patina across most of the metal, and heavier pitting at the back portion of the barrel. Stock with dents and scrapes throughout, 5" sliver of wood is missing behind the front band, and the wood is cracked below the lockplate. Action works properly but the hammer fits loosely. Est.: $800-$1,000. (Antique)
