Sutton Contract U.S. Model 1808 Percussion Musket, #NVSN, .69 cal., 44.5" barrel, originally finished in the white, walnut stock, blade front sight, manufactured without a rear sight. Includes a ramrod that was shortened to 31". The musket was made by Waters & Whitmore, Sutton, Mass. as a flintlock and was converted to percussion before the Civil War. Lockplate is marked "(eagle)", "U.S/SUTTON", and there is no date. Top of the barrel appears to have an "(eagle)" and "D" mark within a circle. Musket is in fair overall condition, with areas of dark patina and pitting along the barrel; heavier near the action. Lockplate is mostly dark. Stock shows heavy use and is broken behind the middle band, with a 7" piece of wood missing. Action is not functioning as the hammer will not stay cocked. Bore is rough and pitted. Est.: $600-$800.
