Taino. PreColumbian. Bazaar Abstract spirit or memory being. Pieces like this were made after hallucinogenic visions. Bone was easily carved and could capture the vision while fresh. Here we have a supernatural being with excessively broad head and peculiar body form. The almost residual legs become another face. The vaginal slit denoting gender. This was made from the back of a manatees skull. Manatee were the Taino’s primary source of protein. Length 4.1 inches. Taino Culture c.600-1500AD. Greater Antilles. Private collection. BIDDING
Bidding advances shall be regulated by the auctioneer and shall be at his discretion. He or she has the right to refuse any bids. Some of the items offered at auction are subject to a reserve. A reserve is a minimum price agreed upon by the consignor of the property and the auction house. The auctioneer may bid on behalf of the consignor in order to reach the minimum sale amount.
