Taos Pueblo Division of Natural Resources is pleased to demonstrate its commitment to mountain sheep restoration and conservation by partnering with the Wild Sheep Foundation for the auction of two Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep permits. Proceeds from these permits will be used to aid Taos Pueblo in its mission to manage wild sheep populations and to ensure the availability of these resources for future generations. Taos Pueblo is actively involved in the management of two distinct populations of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep in the Wheeler Peak Wilderness and the Rio Grande Gorge. The successful bidder may hunt any bighorn ram on “Tract C” of Taos Pueblo during the 2016 hunting season (excluding October 27th – November 5th). Highest bidder will receive priority on hunt dates. 25 rams have been harvested on Taos Pueblo, resulting in an average Boone & Crockett score of over 184. The official state record was harvested at Taos Pueblo by Neal Ainsworth in 2005 scoring 198 4/8. During the 2014 season, Steven Whisler and Thad Steele harvested rams scoring 183 and 190 respectively. In the 2015 season, Jim Lines harvested a ram scoring 187. Taos Pueblo will provide: airport pickup (Taos, Albuquerque, or Santa Fe), scouting, room and board, cook, horse and tack, a generous hunting season, and an option to bring 1 companion on the hunt at no extra charge. Taos Pueblo has also specified Frontier Outfitting as the licensed outfitter for this hunt. Frontier Outfitting will provide scouting, guide service, and game care. A 5% buyers premium will be added to the final bid price of this special permit/tag (unless prohibited by statute.) Proceeds will be dedicated to WSF Conservation Initiatives. If the winner of this item refuses to pay the premiums required, the item shall be offered to the next highest bidder for the price he/she bid.
