DESCRIPTION: “The Last Mountain King” Original Painting 60” x 36”
DONATION: “The Last Mountain King” is a 60”x36” acrylic-on-canvas original painting depicting a magnificent Himalayan bull tahr in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The majestic bull looks out over the pristine alpine beauty of NZ uncertain of his future or the continued survival of his species.
The New Zealand Himalayan tahr herd was recently placed in imminent peril by the rhetoric and culling plans of the Department of Conservation Minister, Eugenie Sage. Due to immense pressure from a united front of hunters, professional guides and other parties from all around the world the department reduced their intended cull for the current time. There are many challenges facing the game animals of New Zealand and this painting was done in support of the conservation of these majestic and incredible animals.

“I was recently on my first tahr hunt with my guide/husband Zion Pilgrim (Wilderness Quest NZ) and was successful in taking a beautiful bull tahr. The whole alpine hunting experience was beyond what I could have imagined and to see the tahr in the mountains inspired me to capture their majestic spirit on canvas. When I saw them threatened in our country, by people who had no understanding of these animals, I knew it was time for this painting. My hope is that it will help raise awareness, in New Zealand and abroad, to the value of these beautiful creatures.”
