RIFLE CHAMPION, MOSES P. STILES. Citing the Adjuntant Report of 1895, Moses P. Stiles was Captain of Company "D" of Norway, ME for First Regiment Infantry of the National Guard of State of Maine Date of rank March 28, 1894, Date of Commission April 2 1894. He was a Distinguished Marksman's Class as a sharpshooter. He was later in the Maine Second Infantry Regiment as Assistant Inspector of Small Arms Practices on Jan. 22, 1909. He qualified for the 1912 US Olympic Team. Paperwork states he was the 1913 Indoor Military State Rifle champion. The fiber trunk measures approx. 45" x 16" x 15" w/ steel reinforcements. Ends of case have black ink "CAPT. M.P. ST LES / MAINE" W/ State of Maine Rifle Team label, & "CAPT. M. P. S. 2ND REGT. / MAINE". CONDITION: good intact overall showing wear, fraying & patina.
