TWO 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN NAVAL PIKES.
1) Overall length: 96 1/4". An interesting example of a pike head or possibly a whaling lance. The head is 10 7/8" x 2". It has an elliptical flat blade & conical base that is secured w/ 3 screws to a modern haft. 1 Flat of the blade marked, “L H WATTS NEW YORK”. Lewis H. Watts was a tool maker in NY from about 1843-1855. CONDITION: head has a deep, dark, rich early patina. Haft has been darkened for display purposes. 2) Overall length: 95 1/2". A rare US M1816 marked Navy boarding pike. Pike head measures 16 3/4" long. 4 Sided blade is approx. 6 1/2" long. 1 Facet of the blade marked, “U.S”. Another facet marked, “N.Y.W” & a third facet has a partial inspector’s mark which appears to be “I.T”. Oak haft painted white over a coat of red paint. There is a round knob at the end of the haft. CONDITION: head has a dark gray patina. Markings are generally quite clear. Haft has about 35% paint. (02-14237/BF). $600-900.
