TWO NICE RARE CIVIL WAR ERA SHEET MUSIC TITLED:

“COL. ELLSWORTH’S FUNERAL MARCH” & “THE UNION MEDLEY” BY WILLIAM DRESSLER.
1) Engraved in Philadelphia by Leon Walker, 722 Chestnut St, Philadelphia. Col. Ellsworth (1837-1861) was a lawyer and soldier. He is best known as the first conspicuous casualty of the American Civil War. This example of a cover for sheet music with very strong graphics & is housed under a blue & black matte behind glass within a gold gilt frame. SIZE: 13 1/4" x 9 1/4". Overall frame 20" x 16". CONDITION: print with moderate foxing & toning but as mentioned graphics remain strong & vibrant.
2) Cleveland S. Brainard & Co. engravers. Circa 1861. The cover sheet is professionally matted & framed w/ strong graphics depicting an American bald eagle above the words "The Union Medley" having Union flags flying on the left & right containing titles such as “The Banner Song”, “Our Flag is There”, “The Star Spangled Banner”, “Washington’s Grand March”. SIZE: 12 1/2" x 9 1/4" sight. Overall frame 19" x 16". CONDITION: cover sheet shows some fairly substantial losses to the right side facing from the midpoint down to the bottom of the cover sheet. Generally w/ overall foxing & toning. Slight crease tear at the midpoint of the left center edge facing. Overall condition is fair to good. (02-16700/573&574). $400-600.
