TWO SCARCE BELGIAN BAYONETS FROM THE WWI ERA

1) Unmarked 16-1/2" triangular blade bayonet. Made in Belgium for export w/ stamped metal grips resembling the German WWI ERSATZ bayonets. The blades were reportedly made from earlier socket bayonet blades. Straight crossguard w/ muzzle ring. Steel triangular scabbard w/ belt hook. CONDITION: blade has wear, scattered oxidation & fine pitting. Black painted grip has extensive flaking & wear. Steel scabbard has flaking black paint turning patina w/ light oxidation. 2) Belgian Model 1889 "short" bayonet. 9-3/8" Fullered single edge blade which is marked only w/ very faint tiny inspector's mark resembling "Crown JD". Crossguard w/ muzzle ring & curved quillion. Marked on right side w/ "F" & left side w/ "U639". Smooth walnut grips. Bird's head pommel. Steel scabbard. Belt hook is marked "F U 639". CONDITION: bright blade has wear, staining & very light oxidation. Balance of parts are gray & patina. Grips have moderate wear & handling marks. Steel scabbard is blue turning patina w/ wear & light scratches. (02-16392-1/RW) $400-600.
