TYPE I 1795 SPRINGFIELD MUSKET WITH 1800 DATED

BUTTPLATE RECONVERTED FROM PERCUSSION. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 44 5/8". Standard configuration. Breech portion of bbl. stamped w/ “P”, eagle head & “V” proofs, along w/ “US” & “S.N.Y”. Bbl. has been reconverted from drum & nipple configuration. Type one lock w/ flat plate, reinforced cock, faceted pan, curled toe to frizzen & bulbous feather spring is undated w/ eagle over “US” in front of cock & “SPRINGFIELD” vertically behind. Stock has a deep fluted comb. Triggerguard has spear type finials. Buttplate is dated 1800 on tang. Bbl. is held by 3 spring retained bands. Sling loops are missing. Stock is carved “MM” behind the sideplate. CONDITION: good as reconverted. Iron parts retaining medium brown patina w/ overall fine pitting. Rear portion of bbl. has many deep scars from being held in a vice while attempting to remove the breech plug. Stock has old hand worn surface w/ many marks & dings. There is a good chunk of wood missing from stock at left side of bbl. tang. Bbl. channel is good w/ minor losses. (01-20131/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-2,000.
