Vintage Italian made magazine fed bolt action rifle chambered for 6.5x52mm ammunition, and manufactured circa 1873. In 1887 the Model 1870 was upgraded to a four-round modified Carcano magazines, and became known as the Model 1870/87 Vetterli-Vitali. These were also rechambered, and sleeved to accept the 6.5x52mm cartridge ('Salerno' barrel sleeving method). Rifle feature a blued finish, an approximately 33-3/4" round barrel, inverted 'V' front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight, smooth curved trigger, ornate trigger guard, turned down bolt handle, serrated push-button magazine release, and a bayonet lug mounted on the right side of the barrel. The hardwood furniture consists of a straight gripped shoulder stock, long smooth forend, sling swivel on the bottom of the shoulder stock, sling swivel on the front barrel band, metal forend cap, and a smooth metal butt plate. There are many proof marks on the barrel chamber, along with the date and place of manufacture. The original blued finish retained is approximately 90% with handling marks, and the finish taking on a brown patina. Metal displays some deformation in some of the screw slots, some dings on the rear of the receiver, and light scattered rust on the rifles entirety. The action seems to function, and the bolt is a little sloppy. The bore appears a little dark, but has strong rifling. The furniture wood is in fair condition with heavy handling marks and a crack in the buttstock. Markings are fairly legible. No magazines or clips included.
Condition is NRA Fair.
