American made muzzle loading percussion rifle with a .54 Caliber bore, and is dated 1848 on the lock plate. The U.S. Model 1841 Mississippi Rifle was built by Tryon in Philadelphia, PA., and only 5,000 rifles were produced under this maker. Rifle includes a cleaned finish, a 30" round barrel, brass half-moon fixed front sight, dovetailed 'U' notched rear sight, smooth slightly curved trigger, brass trigger guard with a sling swivel at the front, brass lower tang, checkered hammer spur, brass tipped ram rod under the barrel, and a brass side plate. The hardwood furniture consists of a smooth straight gripped shoulder stock, smooth forend, smooth brass patch box on the right side of the shoulder stock, brass front barrel band with a sling swivel, brass lower barrel band, and a smooth brass butt plate. The butt plate is marked 'US,' the side plate is marked 'E,' the lock plate is marked 'TYRON, US' in front of the hammer, and 'PHILADA, PA, 1848' behind the hammer. The stock has two illegible cartouches just behind the side plate. The original finish has been cleaned, and approximately 0% remains. Metal displays pitting towards the lock and on the hammer. A very light coating of oxidation can be seen along the barrel. Metal displays no notable deformation. Action is smooth and crisp, and the bore shows peppering. The furniture wood is in very good condition with a very small crack by the side plate. Rifle includes a white leather sling, and an extra nipple in the patch box.
Condition is NRA Good to Very Good.
