Original Swiss WW2 military ice axes (or eispickels) are highly sought-after alpine collectibles. They were primarily issued to mountain troops (Gebirgstruppen) and border guards. 1) Built with a serrated steel pick and adz, wood shaft, and a four-sided metal spike at the base. The head is stamped with the manufacturer, renowned alpine smith "Gebr. Andenmatten schweiz Saas-Almagel". and the date "1939". The other side is stamped with the serial number "9898" and the Swiss Armed Forces inspection stamp "Tn" with Swiss Cross. Measures 34 1/4-L, head measures 11"-W. 2) The same style Ice Axe with manufacturer Robert Perren Zermatt, with date "1945", The other side is stamped with the serial number "20643" and the Swiss Armed Forces inspection stamp "Arm" with Swiss Cross. During the 1930s and 1940s, Zermatt and the neighboring villages were major hubs for hand-forged alpine gear. These axes feature traditional ash-wood shafts and hand-forged steel heads. Measures 35"-L, head measures 11 1/2"-W. Both in very Good condition with no damage.,
