U.S. 'Battlefield Pick-up  Civil War Swords
Lot of three 'Battlefield Pick-up' U.S. Civil War Swords. Recovered from battlefields some time after the war, have been in the elements for some time. Relic condition. All three are enlisted swords. 1) 1860 Light Cavalry saber. Ricasso marked "Prov. Tool Co." Made by the Providence Tool Company, Rhode Island, one of 10,434 sabers they produced under the Ordnance Department contract of February 1862. Reverse marked "US RPB 1863". Leather gone on handle, wire in place, the tip of the 35" blade broken off, measures 28 1/4" , leather washer still in place, edge has many nicks, two branch guard is broken. 2) Same as above, ricasso marked "Made by “AMES Mfg/CHICOPEE/MASS.” Reverse marked " US CWC, can't read the date, guard is dented, bent, wood handle has a large chip out of it, no leather or wire, blade shortened to 25 1/2", nicks to the edge. 3) M1840 artillery saber, complete, 31 1/2" blade, leather gone, small piece of wire remaining, has very old wrap around the wood, brass guard loose from the pommel, can't read the markings, ricasso and lower portion of the blade heavily pitted. Would make a great display, especially if you have battlefield pick-up Firearms.
