U.S. Model 1836 Flintlock Military Single Shot Pistol, by Asa Waters, Milbury, Massachusetts, NVSN, .54 cal., 8.5'' round steel barrel marked ''S./JCB/P'' at breech, integral brass blade front sight and distinctive ''dished oval'' rear sight, iron furniture including captive swivel type ramrod, one barrel band with long tang ending in lock sideplate, long rear barrel tang integral with buttcap, triggerguard with long rear tang abutting buttcap, lockplate marked ''(eagle head) / A. Waters / Milbury, MS. / 1837.'' Appears to be in original flintlock configuration with un-bushed touchhole; brass pan. Oil finished walnut stock marked ''365'' behind lock and with two oval inspectors' marks on opposite side. Condition is excellent as original, with metal parts polished bright, sharp edges and clear markings. Walnut stock is likewise, being smooth, unblemished with excellent grain and coloration, and clear markings. Action is tight and crisp, bore appears shiny. A lovely, untouched and exemplary piece for the advanced collector of early U.S. martial pistols and American flintlocks. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (Antique)(Joe Poyer collection)
