U.S. M1816 HARPERS FERRY TYPE I FLINTLOCK MUSKET.

Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. measures 42" and has a blade front sight on the lower band of the nosecap. Barrel is proofed with an eagle head over "P" and "US", both in ovals on the left side. Lock shows a drooped winged eagle looking left with "US" underneath in front of the cock and "HARPERS FERRY (1)817" to the rear of the cock. Iron trigger guard, buttplate, side plate, barrel bands, nosecap, ramrod and sling swivels. Stock has clear inspector's marks to the rear of the side plate. Solid wood. CONDITION: barrel has a medium gray, lightly pitted finish as does the lock plate. Proofs are reasonably clear. The remaining iron parts have a medium gray finish with very slight pitting noticeable. Lock holds both full and half cock. Wood shows moderate scuffs and scrapes with a few splinters gone around the ramrod channel. A well used bore that remains in relatively good condition. A fine example of a seldom seen, unmolested, first issue M1816 Harpers Ferry. PROVENANCE: from the Collection of Rick Hudak, author of, "Harpers Ferry Arsenal and Joseph Perkin".
