U.S. M1841 HARPERS FERRY PERCUSSION RIFLE ALSO

TERMED A "MISSISSIPPI RIFLE". Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl. 33". One of the most popular and visually attractive longarms produced in America is the Mississippi rifle otherwise known as the Model 1841. The Mississippi rifle got its name after being issued to a Mississippi regiment under the command of Jefferson Davis in the Mexican War. This is an extremely nice example with a browned barrel proofed near the breech, "A W" over "P" and "V" over "P" over an eagle head. Case hardened lock is marked, "(eagle) / US" in front of the hammer and "HARPERS FERRY 1850" behind the hammer. Brass trigger guard, patchbox, buttplate, sideplate, barrel bands and ramrod tip. Iron ramrod and sling swivels. Screw heads are blued. Walnut stock. Patchbox has the full complement of original tools inside. CONDITION: barrel has 95% brown finish intact. Lock has about 70% finish remaining and hold both full and half cock. Brass has a very pleasing mellow mustard patina throughout. Screws have traces of bluing remaining. Stock shows a few minor dents and dings throughout. (01-20956/BF). $5,000-6,000.
