U.S. Model 1795 Type III Harpers Ferry Flintlock Infantry Musket, NVSN, .69 cal. smoothbore, 44.75'' round barrel with integral bayonet stud mounted at top behind muzzle; the flat beveled-edge iron lockplate with integral pan and teat at rear is marked with a small spread eagle holding a shield and olive branches ahead of the flat, double-necked flint cock and ''Harpers / Ferry / 1815'' in three vertical lines behind; iron furniture throughout including serpentine sideplate held by two large screws, heavy trigger, triggerguard with rounded upper and lower finials and a sling swivel at front, three spring-retained barrel bands (center with sling swivel; front with integral blade sight), and button-tipped ramrod. One-piece oil-finished walnut fullstock with a large, clear ''V/JS'' inspector's mark ahead of ''V/AT'' (obscured) on left side raised apron. Mfg'd 1815, in a quantity of just 5,340 pieces. Appears to be in original flintlock configuration, with unbushed touchhole. Condition is good, with iron parts having a deep, light to moderately pitted brown patina obscuring most markings but for those on lockplate. Stock is sound with a few expected marks from military use; all components appear original. An interesting Model 1795 musket, scarce today in this ''attic-found'' condition, which will undoubtedly benefit from a sympathetic cleaning and a little TLC. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
