U.S. Model 1832 Artillery short sword by Ames with scabbard, belt, hanger and blade stamped U.S., “184” with the last digit not visible, “J.C.B.” and on the reverse, N.P. AMES, Springfield, with “W.A.T.” inspectionon the cross guard. The scabbard is very good plus with minor cracking, scuffs and losses. The hilt is sharp with a rich uncleaned dark patina. The buff leather belt and hanger are good plus with staining. The U.S. buckle is original to this belt with deep patina. The blade shows bright with light to moderate finish erosion and pitting.
