SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 507904. Bbl. 32 1/2" marked on left side w/ "VP" eagle proof. Buffington rear sight graduated to 2000 yds. Marked "R" in top right corner. Blade front sight w/ blued steel front sight cover. Low arch breech block marked "US MODEL 1884". Flat lockplate marked w/ "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" & eagle. 3 click tumbler. 1 piece trigger guard. 35 1/2" ramrod bayonet. Upper band carries stacking & sling swivels. Walnut stock set. Crisp legible markings include boxed "SWP 1890" & encircled script "P" proof plus "CB" near proof mark. "US" marked buttplate w/ trap. CONDITION: long comb stock is in good overall condition w/ light wear & scattered handling marks except lg. areas of buttstock have comb & toe finish removed to bare wood. Metal retains 60% original blue finish w/ light wear & peppery oxidation. Breech block retains a good degree of original case colors. Front sight hood has notably more blue than balance of rifle.
