RIFLE W/ VERY LOW SERIAL NUMBER. Cal. 30-06. S# 143818. Bbl. 24" marked behind front sight "SA" "flaming bomb" & "3-08". Replacement WWII era ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards w/ volley notch & flat elevation knob. Windage knob is early grooved type. Blade front sight. Receiver dates to 1906. Unmarked bolt. Gas hole at bottom. Extractor w/ gas hole. Safety & cutoff markings have serifs. Smooth trigger. Walnut high wood buttstock marked w/ boxed “BHM”. Marked under grip w/ Script encircled “P” “A” & tiny “21” assembly number. Stock tip marked w/ “s”. Marked w/ “H” & “E” in cutoff recess. Single recoil bolt. Smooth trap buttplate. “Low hump” handguard appears to be late model replacement. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 15-7/8” fullered blade Model 1905 bayonet. Bright blade & Ricasso marked on left side “SA” “flaming bomb” & “1920”. Marked on right side w/ “U.S.” & “S#”. Smooth walnut grips. WWII era green plastic scabbard w/ belt hook marked w/ “flaming bomb”. Blade has peppery oxidation & light wear throughout. Grind marks on both sides of Ricasso may indicate bayonet was remarked. Grips in well-worn condition w/ moderate loss of wood & sm. crack in lefthand grip. Scabbard in very good condition. CONDITION: stock is in good condition w/ original finish & moderate wear & handling marks throughout. Handguard has light wear & staining w/ notably less finishing correct for WWII replacement. Rifle retains 60% original worn thinning blue w/ scattered spots of light oxidation. Notable areas of thinning on floorplate, upper band & front sight. Very good shiny bore. (22-4170/RW).
