The rifle is accompanied by the original Bill of Sale from a Captain Williams of the 159th Infantry, California National Guard to Stanley S. MacGregor, then a United States Army Corporal. The group also contains a typed interview from Stanley MacGregor dated 12-Jan-1983 & gives information relating to his shooting career & the purchase of this rifle. The interview does, however, contain two discrepancies which may be due to memories spanning many years: 1) the name Williams appears as Wilson, and 2) the purchase price of the rifle is $45 instead of $75. The rifle has been modified by the addition of a Type “C” walnut stock which has an “R” in the cutoff recess but is otherwise unmarked. The buttstock is equipped w/ course checkered buttplate w/ trap. Buttstock hole started but not finished. The rifle has been drilled & tapped on top for scope blocks & mounts a UNERTL 3/4" tube target telescope of 16 power w/ an adjustable objective & fine crosshair reticle. Handguard has been modified by flattening the rear section & inletted for the forward scope block. Metal has thinning worn original blue w/ scattered handling marks. Floorplate is noticeably bent downward. Scope retains 80% original blue w/ thinning & light wear. Optics appear slightly cloudy but serviceable. Bore is shiny with lightly worn lands. PROVENANCE: Original Bill of Sale and copy.
