CARBINE IN AS FOUND RELIC CONDITION. Cal. 45/70. S# NSN. Bbl. 22" w/ incomplete Buffington rear sight. Blade front sight. This carbine shows extensive wear, oxidation, pitting & loss of wood from the effects of weather. There are traces of the lockplate markings & the boxed "SWP" on the left side of the stock over trigger guard. The breech can be opened & the hammer retracted but the tumbler does not function. The Buffington sight is missing its ladder. The saddle bar is present on the left side of the "long comb" walnut stock, however the ring is not present. Buttplate w/ trap for storage of the cleaning rod. CONDITION: stock has extensive loss of wood notable on both sides of butt w/ lg. missing pieces & damage from what appears to be ax cuts. Surface of balance of stock has what appears what appears to be rodent or insect damage. Stock is cracked & chipped throughout. The metal has turned mostly patina w/ heavy oxidation & pitting throughout. Bore is heavily oxidized & pitted. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22601/RW).
