U.S. Springfield Model 1884 45-70 #646694
US military single shot rifle manufactured circa 1887. Features 29.5" barrel, blade front sight, rear sight with elevator ladder, sling swivels, stacking swivel, external hammer, straight gripped walnut stock, curved steel buttplate. Bore is good condition, showing good rifling. Most metal surfaces are a dull blue, with handling wear on the hammer, and trapdoor. (Barrel might be an old re-blue) Stock is good, appears to have been lightly sanded, and re-finished at some point, "46" is stamped at the heel, and a small "76" is stamped behind the lower tang, no cartouche visible.. Breech block is dated 1884. Barrel marked over chamber "V / P / (eagle head)", "P". Buttplate marked "US" on the tang. The U.S. markings on the lock plate have been scrubbed, and the cleaning rod is incorrect for this rifle. The first digit of the serial number is very faint, but believe it to be 6. Condition is NRA Good Antique Firearm.
