Cal. 30-06. S# 3210825. Bbl. 24", marked behind front sight w/ "RA flaming bomb 7-42". Ladder rear sight w/ volley notch. Graduated to 2850 yards. Dished elevation knob; flat windage knob. Blade front sight w/ unmarked stamped sight protector. Rear sight base made w/out lightening. Rear receiver has "Hatcher Hole". Bolt is marked "J5" under safety lug & has proof punch mark underneath bolt handle. Balance of bolt parts are unmarked. Cutoff is marked "R". Grooved trigger. Milled trigger guard & floorplate. S type straight grip stock w/ grasping grooves plus 2 recoil bolts. Stock marked on left side over trigger guard w/ faint boxed acceptance mark & unboxed "R-A-P" arsenal rework marking. All milled furniture except butt swivel which is stamped. Smooth trap buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 9 3/4" fullered blade M1 bayonet marked on left ricasso "PAL" in oval & "US" in flaming bomb. Nickel plated oiler in butt. Birdshead pommel. Grooved plastic grips. Green plastic scabbard w/ metal throat and belt hook. Throat is marked w/ flaming bomb. Blade has been sharpened and has a degree of sweep but still fits the scabbard. Metal is mostly bright retaining little of its original finish w/ wear, staining & peppery oxidation. Scabbard is well worn but serviceable. CONDITION: stock has been refinished w/ notable loss of wood in inletted areas plus softening of edges. This refinish has rendered markings obscure. Metal retains a degree of original wartime finish w/ a somewhat mixed appearance as many parts are serviceable arsenal rebuild replacements. Good shiny bore w/ lightly worn lands. (23-1166/RW).
