Early U.S. WWII M1 fixed bale helmet features chinstrap loops welded directly to the steel shell (prior to the late 1943 switch to swivel loops). Original early-war models are characterized by a front seam, cork-textured OD finish, and khaki (OD#3) chinstraps, which this helmet has. Original CAPAC liner with original intact/complete web/leather lining, includes the thin leather liner chinstrap. Manufactured in Capac, Michigan this “high pressure” liner has embossed “cross” with the words “Capac” in the crown. Started M-1 liner delivery to the US Army in September 1942 and discontinued production around August 17 1945. The web chinstrap is original to the helmet, has the vast majority of the original paint with some scratches/rubs.
