Original U.S. WWII USAAF Pilot Type B-9 Parachute by Pioneer Parachute Company. Dated February, 1945. Consigner states he obtained this from a friend who was a North American Aviation (NAA) P-51 Mustang pilot during the war. The name " Flakenberg" is written under the top flap in the rear. Standard-issue 24-foot back-pack parachute utilized by United States Army Air Forces combat pilots and bomber aircrews during World War II. Designed as a slight variation to the popular B-8, it featured a semi-rigid wire-framed canvas pack and was worn with a quick-release harness. Officially designated as "Parachute Complete - Pilot, 24-Foot Back Type B-9." The pack's tag reads: "PIONEER PARACHUTE MODEL_______-N C.A.A.T.C. NO. 119 SERIAL NO. 390261 DATE OF MFG. FEB 1945 MFG. BY. PIONNER PARACHUTE CO. INC. MANCHESTER, CONNECTICUT, U.S.A." Harness is ink stamped but too feint to read. There is no inspection or packing data card in the sleeve. Rip cord intact, overall very good condition, complete.
