LEVER ACTION SHOOTING EXHIBITION RIFLE. Cal. 50 Express Smooth Bore/50-110. S# 92937. Among the rarest & most sought after Winchesters are the smooth bore rifles manufactured for exhibition shooters. Among the scarcest and most desirable of these are the 50 cal. Model 1886. George Madis, the author of “The Winchester Book”, estimated that fewer than six 1886 50 cal. smoothbore Winchesters were manufactured. Bbl. 26" oct. with standard two line address. Smooth bore specific silver bead case colored dovetail mounted front sight & express rear sight with one standing and one folding leaf having V notches with silver bars. Full length mag. Action, forearm cap, and crescent steel buttplate have case colored finish. Top tang marked "Model 1886". Walnut forearm and straight grip stock. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter dated Oct. 19, 2010 stating: "Type: Rifle. Caliber: 50/10. Barrel Type: Octagon. Trigger: Plain. Smooth bore. Received in warehouse on Nov. 9, 1894. Shipped from warehouse on Nov. 13, 1894, Order number 23868. No other information is available for this serial number". 2 Winchester orange label 2 piece boxes of 50-110 Winchester smokeless ammunition. Box lids have "CHILLED SHOT" labels applied over the soft point markings. Boxes contain shot cartridges with W. R. A. CO. / 50-110 EX head stamp. One box is full, the other contains 9 rds. Both boxes show light tattering. CONDITION: all original rifle retaining over 70% dull, lightly faded barrel and mag. tube blue showing edge wear and spots of corrosion. Receiver retains 30% nicely visible case colors on sides with balance fading to an uncleaned silver/brown patina. Lever retains small amounts of case color on its sides. Buttplate has faded to brown showing spots of corrosion. Unsanded wood has worn finish showing scratches and handling marks. Sound mechanics. Smooth bore is generally bright showing scattered spots of very light pitting. (01-20299/DS). ANTIQUE. $17,500-25,000.
